The Robert and Nettie Joseph Preschool Scholarship

Biography

Bob Joseph was born in 1931 in Pensacola, Florida. Following his high school graduation, he worked as an Assistant Manager for Delchamps prior to his service in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he attained the rank of Sergeant. Upon his discharge, he returned to Delchamps. Bob opened the Delchamps store in the Town and Country Shopping Plaza. In 1957 he realized a lifelong dream of owning his own neighborhood store, the Heights Grocery Store. In 1964 he opened the Joseph’s IGA Supermarket on Scenic Highway. Thirty three years later he sold the store which is presently The Apple Market.

Bob married Nettie V. Hubbard in 1954 and they have two children, Melissa Senn and Robert Joseph, Jr. They have three grandchildren.

Nettie was born in 1934 in West Blooton, Alabama. Her volunteer activities centered around church and school. She and Bob taught Sunday School for many years. They were both active in many areas of ministry at Gadsden Street and Summit Park prior to their move to FUMC in 1994. They were charter members at Summit Park.

Nettie’s professional career included employment at Malbis Bakery, the Chemstrand Corporation and the Community Drug and Alcohol Commission. Gardening has always been a passion of Nettie’s and in 2003 she was certified a Master Gardener by the Cooperative Extension Service of Escambia County which is administered through the University of Florida.

Bob and Nettie’s strong interest in and love of children led them to establish a scholarship fund for preschoolers in 2006.
