Kitty Guy Weatherford Scholarship

Biography

Catherine Bradley “Kitty” Weatherford
April 22, 1937 – October 6, 1998

Kitty was born on April 22, 1937 in Montgomery, AL, to parents Joseph Norman Guy and Nancy Scott Guy. She grew up in Montgomery and attended Cloverdale Elementary and Sidney Lanier High Schools. After graduation from Lanier in 1955, Kitty attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia for two years. The second year at Sweet Briar, she participated in the “Student Abroad Program” and attended the University of Munich in Germany. She attended Huntingdon College for two years and received a degree in Mathematics in 1959. She attended Jones Law School at night and received a Law Degree in 1969 but never practiced as a Lawyer.

Kitty and William D. Weatherford were married on May 12, 1973 in the Chapel of the First United Methodist Church of Montgomery. Kitty selected this setting because one of the windows in the Chapel was a memorial to her Yarbrough grandparents. Kitty and Bill lived in Decatur, AL until September 1974 when Bill’s employer, Monsanto, transferred them to Pensacola. They became members of First United Methodist Church of Pensacola in 1974 during the pastorship of Rev. Bob Dickerson.
Kitty valued education and was a very avid reader. She loved Pensacola and First Church. Unfortunately, she died of lung cancer on October 6, 1998. To honor her memory and their happy marriage, the Kitty Guy Weatherford Scholarship was established.
