Children’s Ministries at First Church is dedicated to growing spiritually healthy families by partnering with parents. Together we provide experiences in worship, service, fellowship and studying the Bible, so all children can learn what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

Summer 2019

Summtertime at FUMC is a fun time to be at church and a great time to connect with church friends. This year we will have Sunday School in the gym, a weekly family night, VBS, camps, Bible study and Kid Adventure Days. We hope you will stay connected this Summer!

JUNE

VBS Preview
Sunday, June 9 | 9:00 – 10:30am
Parents and Children are invited to join us as we begin Roar – VBS 2019! This special preview day is made to engage the whole family on this epic African adventure!

Roar! VBS 2019
Age 4 by September 1, 2019 – 4th grade
$10/child & $25/family
June 10 – 13 | 9:00am – Noon
At Roar – VBS 2019, kids discover that even though life gets wild, God is good! Roar is filled with incredible Bible-learning experiences, sciency-fun gizmos, team building games, cool Bible songs, and tasty treats, which will help faith flow into real life. Extended morning (7:45am) hours are available for working parents. Please indicate on registration if extended hours are needed.

Summer Sunday Funday
Completed K – 4th grade
Sundays, June 16 – August 4 | 9:30 – 10:30am | Gym
Come join us in the gym for Summer Funday Sunday! This extraordinary Sunday school will be full of awesome activities, such as exploring the Bible, team building games and other hands on activities.

Kid Adventure
Completed K – 4th grade and Pre-K with accompanied adult
Thursday, June 20 | 9:00am – 1:00pm | Dream Land | $6.00 (Pizza/drinks included)K – 4th graders are invited to join us on our first adventure to Dreamland for skating. Drop off and pick up is on the 2nd floor of the Education Building. RSVP: Lisa Bond at (850) 549-8967 (text) by June 13.

Camp Smalledwin
Completed K – 2nd grade
Friday, June 28 | 4:00 – 8:00pm | 2nd floor Education Building | $25
This adventurous experience highlights camping activities, such as, water games, cookout, camp fire, faith sharing and crafts. Register by June 14.

JULY

Art and Sports Camp 
Completed K – 4th grade
Monday – Friday | July 8 – 12 | 9:00am – 4:00pm | $135
This fun-filled week is available for art lovers and sports enthusiasts. Choose between an art track to express your creative side or a sports track to actively participate in sports. In order to confirm your spot, register no later than June 1st so we can plan accordingly. Extended morning (7:45 am) and afternoon (5:00 pm) hours are available for an additional fee of $40/week for working parents.

Blue Lake Summer Blast Camp
Completed 3rd and 4th grade
Monday – Saturday | July 22 – 27 | Blue Lake | $392 early bird by April 15 | $412
Blast off to Blue Lake for a fun-filled camping experience. This camp includes camp fires, swimming, games, faith sharing and additional Bible related activities. Registration is now available at bluelakecamp.com.

 

AUGUST

Kid Adventure

Wacky Water Camp
Completed K – 4th grade
Monday – Wednesday | August 5 – 7 | 9:00am – 4:00pm | $75
Wacky water camp will be a three-day fun-filled camp to include water games and an inflatable water slide. Extended morning (7:45 am) and afternoon (5:00 pm) hours are available for an additional fee of $25/week for working parents.

Back 2 School Kick Off

Let us celebrate the upcoming new school year! Families are invited for a cookout, water slide, music, and fellowship. Bring your chair to relax and fellowship with other families. RSVP by August 5 to the church office (850)432-1434.

Weekly Activities


Sunday School for Preschool-4th Grade
Sunday Mornings, 9:30 – 10:30 AM
Bible Stories, Small Group/Large Group Format
Each week children of all ages hear and experience the Bible in a small group/large group format. Storytellers creatively present the Bible story in a large group while dedicated teachers strive to build relationships through small group discussion and activities. Preschool Curriculum: Deep Blue; Elementary Curriculum: Digging Into Discipleship

 


Kid Connect/Choir for K-4th
Wednesdays, 2:30-5:15pm
Choir, Worship Arts Classes, Bible Study
Kids participate in choir, worship, class experiences and fellowship.
This mid-week program is designed to encourage kids to grow in their faith through small groups, creative worship art classes and meaningful worship. Opportunities in the past have been: Dance, Play N Pray, Girl Time, Art, Recorders, Violin, Book Club and more.

Third Grade Bible Blast
Third graders are invited to learn more about their Bibles through a 6 week Bible class. They look at how the Bible came to be, learn the books of the Bible, hear about and experience festivals and traditions in the Bible and learn to make their Bible their own.

 

Safe Sanctuaries

First Church follows Safe Sanctuaries procedures to create an environment in which children, youth and the adults who work with them have boundaries of safe space.

Lisa joined the staff of First United Methodist Church in the fall of 2008. She has a B.A. in Christian Education from Huntingdon College. In addition to working at First Church, she currently serves on the Treehouse Board of the Pensacola Little Theater (Children’s Theatre Program) and volunteers at her children’s schools. She is married to Bill Bond and has three children, Connor, Mary and Caroline.

Facilities

The Children’s Department is located in our two story Education Building. The Education Building provides a kid friendly atmosphere for children to worship, learn and grow. The nursery, classrooms, and Methodist Children’s Academy (MCA) are on the first floor of the Education Building. The second floor has additional meeting space for children including Children’s Library, art room, Children’s Worship Room and more.
