A Discipleship Campaign
The Lord Jesus Christ said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age†(Matthew 28:18-20). This ‘Great Commission’ is the mission of the Church of Jesus Christ in this world: “to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.â€
“The Growing Season†is our discipleship campaign at First Church. It is our way of teaching, learning, and practicing the Great Commission of Jesus Christ. The Great Commission has five key components that we call ‘visions’. They are Christian Education, Christian Evangelism, Christian Worship, Christian Missions & Outreach, and Christian Stewardship.
Each Sunday during The Growing Season (August 11 – September 15), we will feature a different vision along with a story told by the people that make up our congregation. These stories will show how the ‘five visions’ have impacted the lives of our members. Our prayer for this season is that we are reminded of the different ways in which we are called to serve Jesus Christ and that we are moved into being a more active part of the church’s ministry. We invite you to join us as we journey through The Growing Season.
2019 is also the Year of Christian Education at First Church, so this year we especially encourage each person to find a place where you can plug in for the Fall Semester. We know that it will be a blessing. There are classes and small groups for all ages and circumstances. Come be a part of what God is doing at First United Methodist Church of Pensacola.
