Biography
The Jane Copelan Weekley Scholarship was established in 2009 in honor of Jane by her husband, Kenneth L. Weekley. Jane C. Weekley was born in Atlanta, Georgia on June 1, 1935 to Comer and Margaret Copelan. The family moved to Pensacola in 1944 and immediately joined First United Methodist Church. Jane graduated from Pensacola High School and attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama. She was married to Kenneth L. Weekley at First Church by J. B. Nichols, pastor at that time and a good friend of the family.
Jane has followed in the footsteps of her mother, Margaret Copelan. Margaret’s passion and service to the Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and community instilled in her daughter that every person is a child of God and important in building up the Kingdom of God.
Jane’s service to the First Church includes: Sunday School teacher for 50 years, Elementary Coordinator for 4 years, Youth Coordinator for 10 years, President of local, district, and conference United Methodist Women in addition to serving in many different areas of the organization for 43 years, Chairperson of the Council of Ministries and Chairperson of Administrative Board in addition to several work areas within the church.
Jane has always been an advocate and a volunteer for the needs of children, youth, and women.
